Vic Beasley ranked 40 in the NFL top 100 players 2017 edition
In his debut on the NFL top 100 list, former Tiger, Vic Beasley came it at 40. Each year, the list is comprised from votes by current NFL players.
After a slow rookie season, Beasley wasn’t even remotely close to making this list in 2015. To jump all the way to 40 in the matter of one year is extremely impressive. Beasley was one of the most dominant pass rushers in the NFL in 2016, logging 15.5 sacks and 6 forced fumbles on the year.
Beasley is the most physically imposing player to come out of Clemson in the last 5 years. He is 6-foot-3, 246 pounds of straight muscle. Despite his size he moves like an explosive wide receiver. His speed off of the edge allows him to skate past opposing offensive lineman.
Despite leading the NFL in sacks a season ago, Beasley still has plenty of room for improvement. Beasley must improve as a run defender. At times he gets washed down or completely taken out of the play against the run, making him more of a specialist than an every down defensive end.
The Falcons were a few plays away from a Super Bowl in 2016, but ultimately came up short. Adding another viable pass rusher in Takkarist McKinley should help free up Beasley to do more damage in 2017. Hopefully with more production from Beasley, the Falcons can finish the job this time around.
