With the 2017 NFL draft on the horizon, we are going to be analyzing each of the Clemson Tigers as they go through the process. Today we will be discussing Deshaun Watson.

Deshaun Watson is the best quarterback prospect in this draft class in my opinion. Over the next few months every flaw that Watson has will be pointed out. I acknowledge that he has aspects of his game that he needs to work on. That being said, Watson is the most complete quarterback in this years draft. Watson has the accuracy and the requisite arm strength to make all of the throws at the professional level.

Watson is the only quarterback in the draft that ranked in the top 10 in the country in completion percentage over the past two seasons, despite many clamoring about issues with his accuracy. Most importantly, Watson is a winner.

Of the consensus top three quarterback’s in this years draft (Mitch Trubisky, DeShone Kizer, and Deshaun Watson) Watson is the only one with a winning record against ranked opponents. During Trubisky’s brief time as a starter at UNC, he went 1-3 against ranked opponents, Kizer went 1-6 against ranked opponents, while Watson went 10-4 vs ranked opponents.

Expectations:

I believe those within the NFL are over-analyzing Deshaun Watson. The combine is helpful in understanding the athletic ability of the prospects, however, I do not believe much stock should be put into testing numbers. At the end of the day, a good football player, is a good football player. If you put on the film it is evident that Deshaun Watson is the best quarterback prospect in the 2017 NFL draft. He has all of the physical ability, paired with the elusive “it” factor. I expect Deshaun Watson to be taken within the first ten picks of the NFL draft.
