As we prepare for Championship weekend, let’s take a look back at some of the best quarterbacks to ever step foot on campus. The quarterback position is and has been one of the most important positions in all of football. Each and every play the quarterback touches the ball. They are the leaders on the offense. They make the reads at the line of scrimmage. They are entrusted by the coach with the keys to the offense and, in many cases, the game is won or lost on their shoulders.

That being said, Clemson football has had a host of talent at quarterback over the years. From 1896 when the team started till now in 2015, there have been several players come in and lead the team to victories, however, there are a few guys that have stood out above the rest. They played hard during their tenure at Clemson and led the Tigers to bowl victories, ACC Championships, wins over South Carolina and much more.

A handful of them have gone onto play in the NFL and made a living because of their skill. With that being said, let’s take a look at the top-10 quarterbacks in Clemson football history. First, we will begin with honorable mentions and work our way down.

Honorable Mentions:

  • Nealon Greene (1994-1998): 5,719 yards passing, 35 touchdowns to 26 interceptions.
  • Patrick Sapp (1992-1995): The best quarterback ever to be converted to a linebacker his last season at Clemson. 2,278 yards passing and nine touchdowns.
  • Kyle Parker (2009-2010): Played very well in 2009, but could not get the job done in 2010. A great two-sport athlete.
  • Bobby Gage (1945-1948): Gage led Clemson to a perfect 11-0 season in 1948 and was named the MVP after the Gator Bowl that season.
