No. 2 Adam Choice

Adam Choice might have the best chance after Gallman to win the starting job. Even if he doesn’t manage to displace Gallman, though, he will most likely be involved in the rotation.

Choice is an intriguing option as a change-of-pace back. Unlike most of Clemson’s running backs, who thrive on making defenders miss, Choice is a wrecking ball.

That’s part of the reason Choice was leading Clemson in rushing before his injury. The Tigers’ poor pass-rushing allowed defenders into the backfield with startling regularity. But when the other backs would get taken down at the line of scrimmage, Choice could run through a defender and get at least a couple of yards.

That’s also why he finished the year second in yards per rush (4.4) among Clemson’s backs with at least 50 carries. And who knows what his average might have been if, like Gallman, he had the opportunity to plow through South Carolina’s porous run defense.

With all that in mind, I don’t expect to see Choice rank any worse than second on the depth chart in 2015. Clemson has other backs who can do what Gallman does but there is nobody else who can run like Adam Choice.

Expect to see him punishing tired opposing defenses late in a lot of games next year.
