CLEMSON, SC – Forget the daunting schedule featuring some of the nation's best wideouts and quarterbacks. For Clemson's defensive backs, the real challenge, and their secret weapon, lies within their own practice field. Cornerbacks coach Mike Reed revealed at Media Day that the daily grind against Clemson's potent offense is what truly prepares his unit for the elite competition.

When asked how he prepares his guys for the high-profile matchups, Reed emphasized a "one day at a time" approach, focusing on "training camp, getting better in training camp." But the true intensity comes from internal competition.

"For us, you know, on the other side of the ball, we have a very, very good offense. So every day is a competition," Reed stated. "I mean, nobody wants to get embarrassed and be talked about, you know, from our offensive players as well as our offensive players don't want to be talked about by our defensive players. So we get challenged every day in practice. So, I mean, it's a good thing to have."

This constant internal pressure, where the stakes are pride and bragging rights, creates an environment of relentless improvement. The fear of "getting embarrassed" by their own teammates pushes the defensive backs to hone their skills and attention to detail, ensuring they'll be ready when facing external threats. It's a unique and effective strategy for forging a championship-caliber defense.
