Offense

I should probably say offensive line here

Clemson fans, myself mostly, have been so spoiled with offenses since Tajh Boyd and Sammy Watkins were playing recess football in Death Valley. Offense was rarely the issue of the teams of the past when Deshaun Watson and Trevor Lawrence were at the helm either. Apologies to Cole Stoudt and Kelly Bryant. But in 2021, it was an issue. Let’s see how they respond in the Spring Game.

All of the coach speak coming out of the spring practices are good, but that is to be expected. Reality lies somewhere between the coach speak and what we will see on the 9th. Not to say that I am a better evaluator, but I would put myself top ten armchair quarterbacks of my group of friends, so that’s something. And I fully intend to have opinions about what I see on the 9th.

With the defense returning a large portion of important pieces from last season’s team, I am not really concerned with that side of the ball (save the DBs) but I am very concerned about the offense. Not “very concerned” that there are not great athletes and players on that side of the ball, but there needs to be something positive to happen to that group. An offensive line that gels and is a force. The RBs and WRs to stay healthy (and catch passes!!!), and DJ to be the DJ that we all believe he is. OR, have Cade be the guy going forward and wishing DJ farewell in the portal.

I am hoping that all goes as planned, we can see some great plays on Saturday April 9th and some new wrinkles in the play calling from first year Offensive Coordinator Brandon Streeter.

Dabo tells us often that “The Best is Yet to Come.” It likely will not come at the Spring Game, but it is a standard that the fan base parrots regularly and one that we hope to see each time this team takes the field on Saturdays.
