Clemson football: 6 team records that could fall Saturday against Syracuse
Defensive Records
Sacks in a game
- Current recordset: 1996 against Furman – 12
The Syracuse offensive line is terrible, maybe the worst offensive line in all of college football. When you add in the fact that they will be without starting quarterback Tommy DeVito Saturday, it could get ugly for the Orange offense.
The current Clemson record for sacks in a game against another Power 5 opponent is from 2017 when the Tigers sacked Auburn quarterback Jarrett Stidham 11 times.
Tackles for loss
- Current recordset: 1987 vs NC State – 19
As we mentioned above, the Orange will be without starting QB Tommy DeVito on Saturday. If the Orange coaching staff is smart, they will simply try to run the ball and run as much time off the clock as possible.
The problem lies with the offensive. As we said previously, they are horrible which means one of these two defensive records will fall Saturday.
Interceptions in a game
- Current recordset: 2 times – 1971 vs South Carolina and 1995 vs NC State – 6
Rex Culpepper will start for Syracuse on Saturday and last week was not all that bad versus Liberty as he threw three touchdowns and just one interception. Clemson football defensive coordinator Brent Venables is going to throw things at the RS senior he has never seen and that can make for a long day in Death Valley.
Culpepper will undoubtedly make a lot of mistakes Saturday and for that reason, this longtime Clemson record could fall.
