Clemson football picked up a huge commitment Tuesday night

The 2021 Clemson football recruiting class received a much-needed boost when 4-star DT Payton Page announced his commitment Tuesday evening.

The Tigers, who had recently fallen in rankings due to a decommitment, moved from No. 9 in the 247 Sports’ Composite Team Rankings to No. 4 after the announcement from Page.

Page is considered the No. 7 DT in the nation and the No. 4 overall player from the state of North Carolina. He chose Clemson football over Tennessee and North Carolina.

When looking at his film, you can see what the Tigers absolutely love about Page and it can be summarized in basically one word: Monster.

Page is 6-foot-4 and 360 pounds. He is an absolute dominant force on the interior line and has the ability to be just that at the next level.

What’s very scary, at least for opposing programs that will have to play Clemson football, is the fact that the Tigers are now going to have a future defensive line with names like Myles Murphy (5-star), Bryan Bresee (5-star), Demonte Capehart (5-star), Payton Page (4-star), Cade Denhoff (4-star), Zaire Patterson (4-star) and Tre Williams (4-star), just to name a few, all compiled in one unit.

What’s next for Clemson football on the recruiting trail?

With Page’s commitment, the Tigers are basically done on the defensive line. They already have commitments from two defensive ends (Denhoff and Patterson) and they were only planning to take one defensive tackle- and that was Page- in this class.

There is still some chatter that 5-star Korey Foreman– who decommitted a little more than a month ago- could rejoin the class, but that still seems rather unlikely at this point.

Clemson will turn its head primarily to the secondary- in particulary cornerback- for the 2021 recruiting cycle as they have two spots left to fill. The Tigers will also try to lock up at least one offensive tackle, potentially two, as they head down the stretch.

Overall, it should be expected that the Tigers take somewhere in the range of 3-5 more prospects in this class and for them to place a priority on defensive backs as we head into the fall.
