If you look at the current NFL Mock Drafts, you’ll see that former Clemson football CB Trayvon Mullen is a consensus mid-round draft pick.

The vast majority of NFL Mock Drafts have former Clemson football CB Trayvon Mullen going in the second or third round of the 2019 NFL Draft.

CBS Sports released its updated seven-round draft Wednesday with Mullen going as the No. 67 overall pick to the San Francisco 49ers in the third round.

After Mullen started out as a late-first round pick by most mock drafts, he fell to the second round. Even though he was widely considered an early second round pick for quite some time, he is now being seen in the mid-to-late parts of the second round or even in the early picks of the third round.

So, it brings up the question: Why is Trayvon Mullen falling on draft boards?

Mullen is a very talented cornerback with the ability to be effective at the next level. He is good in space and is elite at covering deep and fade routes.

Though he sometimes struggles with complex routes and can find himself out of position at times, his reputation and film speak for themselves. There’s a reason that opposing quarterbacks didn’t target Mullen.

There’s a reason they didn’t throw the ball his way.

Mullen didn’t have a ton of pass break-ups or interceptions because he never was really given the opportunity, similar to Mackensie Alexander a few years ago.

I understand that there are a few cornerbacks that tested a bit better than Mullen and a few that have better film, but he would be an absolute steal if he fell to third round.

Mullen has the potential to be a starting cornerback in the league. You don’t find too many defensive backs of that caliber in the third round. It will be interesting to see where he falls, but one thing’s for sure: An organization is going to be very happy with one of their mid-round selections if they choose Trayvon Mullen.
