The Clemson Tigers coaching staff has been busy on the recruiting trail since the start of the summer camp circuit. Today I will be breaking down the offer of 2019 defensive end, Faatui Tuitele.

Clemson was the most recent in the line of elite programs to extend a scholarship offer to Faatui Tuitele. Hawaii is quietly becoming one of the most talent rich areas in the United States in terms of high school football. If it wasn’t for the distance, athletes from the area would get much more exposure.

Strengths:

Tuitele is a hard-nosed player who is looking for contact on every play. Though he is just a rising junior, Tuitele is physically mature for his age. The most impressive aspect of his game is the use of his hands. Tuitele does a phenomenal job of creating separation and shedding blocks.

  • Motor
  • Use of length/hand placement
  • Strength

Weaknesses:

Tuitele is a well-rounded athlete at this point in his career. He must continue on developing more strength as he moves though high school and continue to improve his explosion off of the ball.

Outlook:

Tuitele is far from making a decision. With him living in Hawaii it’s difficult for him to visit the campuses of some of these schools. At the moment USC is perceived as his leader, which makes sense given their clout as a program and their relative distance from his home. It’s much easier to visit USC on the West coast of the country, than Clemson on the East coast.

I know it’s early in his recruitment, but I believe Clemson has staying power. The Tigers have strong tradition along the defensive line and Dabo Swinney is a man of faith, which it appears Tuitele is as well.
