St. Thomas Aquinas has another budding star in 2019 outside linebacker, Anthony Solomon.

St. Thomas Aquinas high school in Fort Lauderdale, Florida is one of the most storied programs in all of high school football. Stars such as NFL Hall of famer Michael Irvin, Lamarcus Joyner and Joey Bosa once walked the halls of St. Thomas Aquinas.

I caught up with 2019 linebacker, Anthony Solomon whose uncle, Roger Harriott, is the head coach at St. Thomas Aquinas.

I started off by asking Solomon what it was like to play at a program like St. Thomas Aquinas.

“I mean being down in Florida is probably one of the greatest opportunities I’ve ever had to play football, because I’ve been to camps all around the country and I haven’t seen the same athletes I’ve seen in Florida. Just being down here in this area in general is crazy.”

“Playing at St. Thomas is really good, that’s where my uncle went to high school. My uncle is the head coach at St. Thomas right now, coach Roger Harriott. Playing under him is a dream come true, because I always wanted to play for my uncle ever since I was little.”

Though he is just a sophomore in high school, Solomon holds scholarship offers from over 20 different programs, including the likes of Michigan, Alabama and Clemson.

Despite his plethora of options at such a young age, Solomon is not planning on slowing down any time soon.

“I want to work on getting smarter, getting a little bit faster and slightly bigger. I feel like my athletic ability right now can be tuned a lot more and working with some of the best coaches I’ve ever had will definitely my football IQ jump up.”

Solomon recently visited the Tigers on their March 4th junior day. Here’s what he had to say about his time there, “The facilities were cool, it was newly renevated so it was nice. They had a nap room in there so that was cool.”

Solomon was equally impressed with the coaching staff.

“I was trying to read through a lot of what coach Swinney was saying and see what his plan for us to come to his school would be and I saw nothing but the truth.”

“He (Swinney) seems to be a very religious man and coming from St. Thomas that is something that I really respect. He was talking about making a commitment and once you make a commitment, their committed to you. I really appreciate that, that’s something I really will take into consideration as I go through this journey.”

Being only a sophomore, there are restrictions on the amount of contact that college coaches can have with a prospect. That being said, it sounds like Brent Venables is Clemson’s lead recruiter in the pursuit of Anthony Solomon.

At the moment, Michigan is Solomon’s leader. Solomon told me that he plans to get back up to Ann Arbor on April 15 for the Wolverines spring game.

Michigan will be tough to battle in the recruitment of Solomon as Jim Harbaugh recently hired former Flanagan High School head coach, Devin Bush Sr. as a defensive analyst. Bush is from the Pembroke Pines area which is also the hometown of Anthony Solomon.

When asked what he is looking for in a program, Solomon offered, “I am looking to see where I would fit on a team, if I were to have a shot playing earlier. Then, what educational programs they have and how they can affect my life in the long run. As everyone knows football comes to an end very fast so I’d like to know which educational program can help me in life.”

Solomon is clearly intelligent as evident in the majors he is currently interested in.

“I have a couple. I’m really interested in Architecture and medical biology, bio, bio engineering stuff like that.”

From the sounds of things, Solomon will not be camping with Clemson this summer, but he is interested in visiting Clemson again.

I have no plans to go for any camps during the summer, but, I’m sure I’ll be up there for another visit sometime soon. I didn’t made any arrangements yet but Im sure Ill be up there.”
