After experiencing two losses at the hands of Clemson football, Baker Mayfield still finds time to throw some shade in the direction of the Tigers.

When Clemson and Oklahoma met in the 2014 Russell Athletic Bowl, quarterback Baker Mayfield was sitting out after his transfer from Texas Tech University. Although he wasn’t able to play, he had a nice sideline view of the 40-6 beat down that his Sooner teammates received from the Clemson Tigers.

Leading up to this year’s Capital One Orange Bowl game and much anticipated rematch, Mayfield had this to say to the Miami Herald,  “I’m in a spot where now I can actually help my team out on the field and not just from the sideline.” He also expressed his displeasure in what the commentators had to say during the Russell Athletic Bowl.

"“We still watch that tape. That’s motivation for us. We still listen to the commentating of the broadcast and how disrespectful it was, ” said Mayfield, recalling that the commentators dubbed OU a scout team against varsity Clemson, said the Sooners didn’t want to be there and that it was an embarrassment for coach Bob Stoops."

Of course, Baker Mayfield did get to play Clemson in the Orange Bowl/Playoff game and this time with a chance to move on to the national championship game. But he and his trash talking teammates weren’t good enough to beat the Tigers and they lost 37-17.

So for everyone that is keeping score. Clemson is 2-0 against Oklahoma with a combined score of 77-23 in those games.

Baker Mayfield has to be impressed with the Tigers now, right?

In the Athlon Sports 2016 football preview, here’s his answer to a question about watching the Orange Bowl game.

"It’s frustrating watching those types of games, knowing they did nothing to stop us. We did everything. We left a lot on the field, made a bunch of mistakes. We had a penalty in the first half to stop a drive. I turned the ball over twice, which was very unlike me. And I did it in a big game, which I can’t do. I need to take care of the ball. And it’s frustrating to see that if we would have played the way we should have, we would have won. But the better team won that day. And they went on to the national championship."

It’s obvious that Mayfield is delusional. He did have two interceptions, but linebackers, B.J. Goodson and Ben Boulware both made great plays on the ball to bring in those picks.

Not to mention, the Tigers defense shut down the explosive Sooner offense in the second half, sacked Mayfield five times, and held them to 378 total yards.

Maybe, he should have asked his defense to stop the Clemson offense from racking up 530 yards and moving the ball up and down the field.

If the Tigers didn’t have a red zone interception, three field goals instead of touchdowns, and a missed field goal;then he would have witnessed another lopsided win by the Tigers.

Most people have projected Clemson and Oklahoma to be in the 2017 College Football Playoffs, so a third meeting in consecutive years is possible. Could it happen?

Stranger things have occurred and if so, Baker Mayfield’s comments will likely be a topic of discussion among Clemson players and fans. But for now, everyone in Clemson can just say to him “Scoreboard.”
