For a fourth straight week, the Clemson Tigers sit atop the College Football Playoff poll. Let’s take a look at what the committee got right and wrong.

Your Clemson Tigers are sitting atop the College Football Playoff rankings for the fourth straight week. They are the undisputed number-one team in the land and are in prime position to be not only in the College Football Playoff, but to get to select where they play at.

Let’s take a look at the College Football Playoff poll for the week and then see what they got right, as well as what they got wrong from this week.

College Football Playoff Poll:

  1. Clemson
  2. Alabama
  3. Iowa
  4. Oklahoma
  5. Michigan State
  6. Notre Dame
  7. Baylor
  8. Ohio State
  9. Stanford
  10. Michigan
  11. Oklahoma State
  12. Florida
  13. Florida State
  14. North Carolina
  15. Navy
  16. Northwestern
  17. Oregon
  18. Ole Miss
  19. TCU
  20. Washington State
  21. Mississippi State
  22. UCLA
  23. Utah
  24. Toledo
  25. Temple

The Good:

  • Clemson is number one. For the fourth straight week, the Tigers remain number one in the nation. Clemson has continually proved they are a confident number one team and have played as such over the past few weeks.
  • Goodbye Florida. After an unimpressive win over Florida Atlantic, many speculated that the Gators would actually move up in the polls. They moved back to number 12 in the poll, but it still may not be far enough down.
  • LSU is finally gone! Wow, it took three straight losses, but the Tigers finally dropped out of the polls. LSU was number-15 in the nation going into last week. They lost yet again and the pollsters finally dropped them out of the rankings. It took long enough…

The Bad:

North Carolina?

It still remains to be seen how the Tar Heels are behind Florida State, who has two losses, in the polls. They are also behind Michigan, Florida, and Stanford which just puzzles me. I know North Carolina’s strength of schedule hurts them, but if you’re going to use your precious “eye test” you know they are better than the teams I just listed.

More from Rubbing the Rock

  • Toledo is back. The might Toledo Rockets are back in the top-25 because there are no other teams that are good enough to be there. It’s sad they are even being considered a top-25 team.
  • The luck of the Irish? Notre Dame fell out of the top-4 after their unimpressive win over Boston College. Ouch.
  • The Ugly:

    • Alabama. I have no problem with putting Alabama at #2 at this point in the season. They are a one-loss team and if you want to consider them the best one-loss team ahead of Oklahoma, Notre Dame, Michigan State, or Baylor go right ahead. What I do have a problem with are the national pundits who are proclaiming that the Crimson Tide should be #1. There are so many analysts that want to discount Alabama losses and pretend they are a professional team. It’s ridiculous.
    • Ohio State #8? What a joke. The Buckeyes lost at home to Michigan State and have NO QUALITY WINS on their schedule, but yet they are still number 8, which just so happens to be high enough that if some other things happened they could wind back up in the College Football Playoff.
    • Iowa.  I can’t argue that Iowa shouldn’t be in the top-four because they are undefeated, but if you want to talk about a perfect match-up, this is it. I would love nothing more than for the season to end today. If Clemson and Iowa match-up on the gridiron, the Tigers might stomp the Hawkeyes by 30. Please let this come to fruition. Iowa is the most fake team in all of College Football and I wouldn’t be shocked if they lost to Nebraska this Friday.
