Rubbing the Rock’s Five Predictions in Five Days series continues on with the Clemson Tigers ready to kick off the season against the Georgia Bulldogs today. Today’s prediction: The Clemson will start the 2014 season on a high note and beat Georgia once again.

It’s finally game day and, with the Clemson Tigers getting ready to open the season against Georgia very soon, it’s time to go on the record. There have been a number of predictions about the game here this week and they have all been in favor of Clemson. Writing about how Cole Stoudt could be the better quarterback in this game was much more fun than breaking down how the Clemson offensive line might struggle against Georgia’s front-seven, obviously. But I do worry a bit that this little series of predictions makes it out to seem that Clemson is the safe pick in this game, or that they have a straightforward path to victory.

They don’t.

There are tons of reasons to think that Georgia will win today. Obviously, Georgia fans also believe that they are going to start their season 1-0 today. They have to replace some departing stars as well, but their rebuilding project isn’t quite as extensive as Clemson’s is.

Choosing Clemson is making a pick based on a gut feeling more than anything else. It’s saying that I believe Cole Stoudt will be a solid quarterback, and a new star will emerge within the receiving corp, and the defense really will be as good as advertised, all without having a chance to see them play an actual football game.

But, of course, I am picking Clemson in this one. Because I do think those things will happen. Stoudt has always looked sharp, Clemson kills it on the recruiting trail when it comes to wide receivers, and there are too many stars on the defense for it not to be great. So here is my predicted score:

Clemson 31, Georgia 24

I could definitely be wrong. I hope I’m not, but at least now the wait for answers won’t be a long one.

Go Tigers.
