Ray Ray McCloud Announces Commitment to Clemson

One of Clemson’s top remaining targets, four-star prospect Ray Ray McCloud, just announced that he will play his college football for the Tigers. He chose Clemson tonight over a final four composed of the Tigers, Florida, Maryland and UCLA. Most of the people following McCloud’s decision seemed to believe that the final decision ultimately came down to Clemson and Florida though.

It was hard to guess what might happen with McCloud’s decision, as the young athlete kept things pretty close to the vest throughout the recruiting process. Most prognosticators suggested he would end up with Florida, but it seemed like little more than speculation and an assumption that Florida would have the home-state advantage, since McCloud didn’t offer many clues himself.

McCloud is a tremendous athlete who could play either wide receiver or running back. Dabo Swinney and the staff are apparently recruiting him as a receiver, to accompany Deon Cain for an outstanding 1-2 punch. Clemson’s burgeoning reputation as “Wide Receiver U” looks to be in good shape for the next few years.

The Tigers are currently ranked No. 3 in 247 Sports’ composite rankings for the 2015 recruiting class. McCloud’s commitment bumped them up from No. 4, moving them just ahead of South Carolina.

Kudos to QuakingTigers over at Shakin’ the Southland, for sticking by his prediction that McCloud would ultimately end up with the Tigers, despite the swarm of recruiting “experts” calling him for the Gators.
