Clemson Hosts Boston College In Final Regular Season Series

The Clemson Tigers will take on the Boston College Eagles in a 3 game series at Doug Kingsmore Stadium beginning Thursday night. The Tigers (32-21, 13-13) are coming off of a 7-2 victory against Furman that saw them score 5 runs in the final two innings to earn the win.

Matthew Crownover (6-5) will pitch Thursday night for the Tigers. He will be opposed by John Gorman (3-6) for BC. Thursday night’s game will begin at 6:30 pm at DKS, weather permitting.

Boston College (21-31, 9-18) currently sits 2nd to last in the ACC Atlantic division standings, while Clemson is 3rd in the Atlantic at 13-13 in conference play. The Tigers sit 7th overall in the ACC and need two wins to guarantee a spot in the ACC tournament. Clemson currently sits just half a game behind North Carolina and Maryland for the 5 and 6 seeds, respectively. Boston College is still in contention for a spot in the ACC tournament.

Series Outlook

Clemson needs to sweep this series. After a disappointing series loss to Notre Dame (last place in the ACC), it is critical for the Tigers to take all 3 at home against the Eagles. a 16 win conference season would most likely be good enough for a top 5 seed in the ACC tournament, no small task. Clemson has a clear pitching advantage with both Matthew Crownover and Daniel Gossett, and should exploit that advantage for early leads and dominant starting pitching.
