Let’s just go ahead and get something out on the table…
You have not truly experienced a College Football game unless you have taken in the southern traditions and flair that occurs outside Death Valley prior to a Clemson Tigers‘ kickoff.
Don’t even try and argue what you and your team does because it just doesn’t compare.
And to make things even more official about this grand statement is that Southern Living has named Clemson as The South’s Greatest Tailgate for the second-straight year. The Oklahoma State Cowboys came in second while the LSU Tigers finished third as more than 400,000 folks voted from August 15 to September 30.
The second and third place teams are what they are. It’s hard to believe the Ole Miss Rebels and The Grove with all of its sights are not in the top three, but that’s what happens when folks vote.
This sports writer has been to about 30 different tailgates around all of college football over the past 20 years and has seen some great ones. But the winner will always be the rolling hills of the South Carolina mountains and that view from the top of the upper deck in Death Valley. It is literally tents, thousands of $250,000 RVs, the most amazing tailgate contraptions you’ve ever seen, some of the best food and the nicest people (unless you are a South Carolina Gamecock fan) one will ever meet.
So if you have never experienced a Saturday in Clemson, especially one that leads into a big-time night game, it is high time you hop in the car and head to see the Tigers. It will make you a believer and give you some fantastic ideas to take back home to your team.
